Can I Question My Faith and Still Belong?
For many BIPOC communities in the U.S., religion has been a source of connection and belonging. Religious spaces have offered a safe place to gather with others who share cultural experiences, along with practical resources for those navigating life after immigration.
As we grow older and our worldviews expand, we may begin to question religious beliefs we were raised with. New experiences and perspectives can challenge teachings we once accepted. This process of deconstruction can feel confusing and lonely, especially when much of our community is rooted in the religion we’re questioning.
In therapy, my clients and I explore what religion meant to them growing up and what it means to them now, with curiosity and without judgment. Together, we make space to consider what beliefs still resonate, what no longer feels right, and what role, if any, they want religion to play in their lives moving forward.
If this feels familiar, feel free to reach out to explore whether working together would be a good fit.
